Editor Role and Summary

Scope of Position

These roles primarily focus on the development and operation of the ResearchHub Platform, ensuring the growth and excellence of open scientific collaboration. However, as part of their responsibilities, editors will actively contribute to the development of the ResearchHub Journal. This includes inviting authors, vetting papers, overseeing peer reviews, and ensuring the timely publication of high-quality journal content.

Role Summary

Editors at all levels are essential to ResearchHub’s mission of promoting high-quality, peer-reviewed research. They manage day-to-day operations related to manuscript submissions, peer review oversight, and content publication within their areas of expertise.

  • Commitment: 8-12 hours per week

Key Responsibilities

Please note the following pertains to Assistant and Associate Editors. The role of Senior Editor requires additional duties.

Content Management

  • Upload at least 6 high-quality preprints weekly to qualify for peer review bounties.

  • Evaluate and assess both preprints and funding proposals (RFP submissions) for quality, relevance, and readiness for peer review.

  • Review the quality of submitted peer reviews and provide structured recommendations to the Editorial Lead.

  • Maintain communication with assigned peer reviewers and authors/applicants to ensure deadlines and editorial standards are met.

Team Support

  • Suggest qualified peer reviewers to Editorial Lead for both preprints and funding proposals.

  • Attend weekly editorial meetings to align on objectives, pipeline status, and funding initiatives.

  • Support internal tracking and coordination of manuscript and proposal reviews through the internal system.

Scientific Contributions

  • Actively engage with peer reviewers and facilitate manuscript and proposal reviews within the ResearchHub workflow.

  • Identify strong funding proposals and help ensure they receive rigorous, constructive evaluation.

  • Proactively outreach to scientists and research teams to encourage submission to active RFPs.

  • Assist in identifying and engaging potential funders, partners, and aligned organizations interested in supporting RFPs.

Ambassadorship

  • Act as an ambassador for ResearchHub, promoting the platform across publishing, peer review, and funding initiatives within their scientific network.

  • Conduct outreach to recruit peer reviewers, attract high-quality manuscript submissions, and encourage applications to active funding calls.

  • Strengthen relationships within relevant academic, industry, and philanthropic communities to expand ResearchHub’s impact.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree.

  • Record of high-quality publications in reputable scientific journals.

  • 4+ years of relevant experience in academic publishing, research, or peer review.

  • Familiarity with manuscript editing, peer review coordination, or similar roles in scientific communication.
